Walking Westward

So my original plan for today was to bust out my new tent and spend the night at the river.  Too bad the weather didn't see fit to fall in line.  The morning rain and drear cleared in the late afternoon, so I decided to take a long walk West, with the goal of finally getting a picture with the big Choibalsan sign.

The Natural History Museum Beth and I visited awhile ago.

 Where the sidewalk pavement ends!

An old delguur maybe?

Entrance gate to the statues and plaza, the old city center.

I spy...

Stalin perhaps?  Someone told me it's Lenin, but IDK.

Big empty plaza between the two statues.

Russian soldier rising from the ground.  He's even facing North-East toward Russia!

AAAAAAAAAAA!

Nope, not the Parthenon.

See, when the Soviets left, their buildings were left to crumble.

Finally, the sign.  This side, as you're driving West, says "Bayntumen" which is the old name for C-town and current name for the first soum West of Choibalsan.

Not sure what this is in memorial of/monument to.

The other side of the sign, as you drive East into C-town.

My home!

Hugs!

Ready!?

Jump!  (No lie, it took about a dozen tries to get this.  Self-timer fail.)  Bonus points if you can spot Bambuul.

Of course there was an ovoo on the hill, so we hiked up to that.  Notice the canes?  This ovoo must have healed someone...

The white lines in the background on the right are the sign and monument/memorial.

Looking South-West.

Looking due West.

Looking East to C-town.

Panoramic South & East.

My monkey and an ovoo.  Aaww!

This is a working water mill!  Cool!
